Our Story

The Best Beans from the Highest Peaks

A Story of Gayo Mountain Coffee

Bayang Coffee, grown in the Gayo Mountain region of Aceh, Indonesia, is known for its unique and distinctive flavour profile. The region has ideal conditions for coffee cultivation including rich volcanic soil, high elevation and a cool climate.

Our single origin, Bayang Coffee offers a unique and specific flavour profile  unlike blended coffee. This allows the consumer to fully savour the taste that Bayang Coffee has to offer. The coffee’s origin-specific flavours and unique processing method give it a distinct taste that is not found in other coffees.

Another factor that makes Bayang Coffee unique is its high altitude. The coffee plants are grown at elevations of up to 1,500 – 5,000 feet above sea level in the northern region of Sumatra, which allows for a slower maturation process, resulting in more developed flavour compounds.

Gayo Mountain Coffee: A Taste of Tradition and Terroir

The taste of Gayo Mountain Coffee is truly one-of-a-kind. From its rich, earthy aroma to its complex flavor profile, this coffee is a reflection of its unique terroir and the traditional farming practices of the people of Gayo.

At the heart of Gayo Mountain Coffee’s taste profile is its origin. The coffee beans are grown in the high altitudes of the Aceh region, which provides a unique combination of ideal soil, temperature, and humidity. The volcanic soil of the region is rich in minerals, which gives the coffee a distinctive
earthy flavor. The cool temperatures and high humidity slow down the growth of the coffee cherries, allowing them to develop a more complex flavor.

But the taste of Gayo Mountain Coffee is not just the result of its terroir – it’s also a reflection of the traditional farming practices used by the people of Gayo. The farmers handpick only the ripest coffee cherries, which are then sun-dried on patios to bring out their natural sweetness. This careful
attention to detail allows the coffee to develop a complex flavor profile that is both sweet and spicy.

When you take a sip of Gayo Mountain Coffee, you’ll first notice its rich, earthy aroma, which is reminiscent of the soil in which it was grown. As you take your first sip, you’ll taste a burst of
sweetness, with notes of caramel, chocolate, and even hints of fruit. This sweetness is balanced by a subtle spiciness, with hints of cinnamon and clove. As you continue to sip, the coffee will leave a
pleasant aftertaste that lingers on your tongue, inviting you to take another sip.

Overall, the taste of Gayo Mountain Coffee is a testament to the power of tradition and terroir. By combining the ideal growing conditions of the Aceh region with traditional farming practices, the people of Gayo have created a coffee that is truly exceptional – one that reflects both their culture and the natural beauty of their land.
